How Pictures Work
In-Class Activity: Molly Bang Shapes Story Book
After discussing the Molly Bang book, you will be given shapes of paper, felt, or foam and large sheets of paper. Try to express the emotion, tone, and mood of the story through the shapes.
1. Groups should select a well-known fairy tale or fable from
a. http://storynory.com/archives/fairy-tales/ or
b. http://www.ivyjoy.com/fables/
c. You should keep your selection a secret.
2. Select the important scenes from the story and create a scratch storyboard (see attached template). Tell the story through shapes (provided by us) ala Molly Bang. Obviously, you cannot show every scene from the story. Work quickly to choose the most important scenes that will tell the complete story. Make these decisions as a group.
3. During the sharing time, the selected groups will use the ELMO to show the stories.
If time allows, we will scan or photograph your stories for use in the portfolios.
